Boothstown Medical Centre would like to reassure patients that a localised and limited meningitis outbreak has been identified in Kent. This situation is being closely monitored and proactively managed by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
As this outbreak is not in our local area, the risk to our patients remains low.
At present:
- There is no change to the national vaccination programme.
What patients should do:
- Remain aware of meningitis symptoms, which can include:
- High temperature (fever)
- Severe headache
- Neck stiffness
- Sensitivity to light
- Drowsiness or difficulty waking
- Vomiting
- A rash that does not fade when pressed (in some cases)
- Seek urgent medical attention if you or your child develop symptoms suggestive of meningitis.
We will continue to follow UKHSA guidance and will update patients promptly if there are any changes to recommendations, including vaccination eligibility.
If you have concerns, please contact the surgery for further advice.
